For over 15 years Girls Incorporated has been helping high school seniors further their education through their Lucille Miller Wright Scholarship Program. This scholarship requires that the applicant be a member of Girls Inc. and be enrolled in an accredited college or university. Several scholarships are awarded in the amounts of $2500 and $15,000 each year. The American Association of University Women offers several scholarships for high school senior girls. The mission behind this foundation is to empower women who want to advance their lives by pursuing educational goals. The AAUW values strong women who are leaders in their community and excelling academically. The AAUW awards thousands of dollars annually through 5 different scholarships programs. The basic eligibility requirements are that you are a female who will be enrolled in a college program the following school year. You must be active in your community and have strong academic skills. P.E.O is another foundation dedicated to the advancement of women in education from all walks of life. They offer several scholarship opportunities for continuing education. The P.E.O Star scholarship is a $2500 scholarship awarded to high school senior girls who will be attending an accredited educational institution the following academic school year. Specifically applicants must be a high school senior with a cumulative 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), demonstrate personal leadership and community involvement and must be recommended by a local chapter of P.E.O. Look In Your Own Backyard
Believe it or not scholarship opportunities are everywhere. You may already belong to some organization or group which offers money to high school senior girls. Seek out your advisors, coaches and mentors to see what is available. Do you have an after school job? You may be one step closer to a scholarship. Wal-Mart currently offers scholarships 4 times a year to its associates (and Sam’s Club employees) that pursue higher education, can demonstrate a financial need and are actively involved in their community. This scholarship is offered across the US and the qualifications are pretty simple. As long as you are a high school senior you qualify. Although this opportunity is not gender specific all it takes is a little creativity, imagination and sewing ability. This next scholarship is geared more towards a physical feature than a talent. If you are a girl who is at least 5’10″ you are eligible to apply for a scholarship of up to $1000 from Tall Clubs International. TCI is a social club for tall women and men with chapters across the US.
